“Casserole: A Mixture of Photographic Thoughts”

January 17 to March 4, 2012

The gallery hours are:

Wednesday 1 to 3pm,

Saturday and Sunday 1 to 4pm.

The Irvington Guild of Artists is pleased to announce the photography exhibition, “Casserole: A Mixture of Photographic Thoughts”. This exhibition of fine art photography is a group exhibition, which will feature color, and black and white photographs created by the members of INvision: Alliance of Photographic Artists.

The exhibition will open with a reception at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center on Friday, January 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. The artists will be present, and refreshments, including casseroles, will be served. This reception is free and open to the public.

The exhibiting members are Donna Lee Adams, Andy Chen, John Crowe, Lauren Ditchley, Mary Hansen , Holly Hooper, Ginny Taylor Rosner, and Mike Stroup .

INvision is a membership of artists who promote and advance the art of photography by providing a platform for photographic discourse in order to encourage the artistic growth of its members and to enrich the lives of other interested people through the experience of photography.

"Seeing the Tree and the Forest" Art Show and Silent Auction

Please join us and support these young artists in their efforts to

raise money for a worthwhile cause.

The CFI Art Club at IPS School #2 is hosting an art show and sale of original artwork.

Over 25 young artists will be exhibiting paintings and mixed media

collages. The proceeds raised from the sale of the artwork will

help fund a trip to the Appalachian mountains in the spring of

2011. During the trip the students will explore the rich art culture

of the region and complete a service project. In addition to the art

show, local artists are donating original artwork for a silent auction.

Please join us at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center located in

historic Irvington.

Walk in the Park

Thanks to all who came out (over 400) to Ellenberger yesterday. Happy dogs, happy kids, happy art-lovers strolled the park, enjoying the incredible art in the 40+ booths. Kids of all ages made their own art. And, the animals brought their own fun. Who did you like the best? The turtle who munched her way across the lawn? The non-stinky skunk? The ferret? The overcast skies gave some relief to the heat as people munched, chatted, and bought original items for their collections or gifts. And, welcomed "neighbors" from all over the country. Thanks to those who helped us update our database and who renewed /joined as members of the IGA. We can now better reach out to you to keep you informed. And your membership helps fund the many events the IGA provides. Keeping artists and Community connected.

The 2010 A Walk in the Park Irvington Art Fair WILL HAPPEN on Saturday August 21, 2010 from Noon-6pm in Ellenberger Park. Read what all you can do:

Enjoy over 40 artists. Leaisurely shopping and one of a kind creations.
Eat food from CP Catering and AlliCarte Catering. Ribs, Chicken, Hot Dogs, Walking Tacos, Ice Cream, Lemonade and MORE!!
Watch a live animal show by ANIMALIA from 1-3pm near Dali's Digs for Kids on the stage.
Did I mention Dali's Digs? We will be printmaking, creating tissue paper stained glass and bringing to life real works by Kandinski, Munch and VanGogh as GIANT murals!
Be sure to visit the IGA booth for more information about how you can help plan for and bring to life a great 2011 arts season in Irvington.
Many Irvington community organizations will be on hand to answer questions and tell you how you can get involved.

The 64th Annual Irvington Halloween Festival
2010 Poster Design Contest

The Historic Irvington Community Council (HICC) requests proposals for a poster to commemorate the 64th annual Historic Irvington Halloween Festival (IHF).

The Irvington Halloween Festival is a family event that has been a part of Irvington for over 60 years and is centered around the children of Irvington. This week-long festival / fundraiser is hosted by the HICC. The HICC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life for all Irvington residents and businesses. The Halloween Festival and its associated events more than 10,000 people each year. This year’s festival will include haunted ghost tours, The Slightly Haunted Puppet Show, Halloween themed children’s movies, a house decorating contest, and more. The week of festivities concludes on Saturday October 30 festival that features, a parade, over 130 vendors, a costume contest, live music, games, crafts and other entertainment.

The poster should represent and reflect the spirit and essence of this event. The 2010 Irvington Halloween Festival runs from October 23rd through the 30th.

Final art and entry forms are due by Friday, Aug 6th, 2010, at 6 PM and may be dropped off at the Irvington Branch Library.

Artists will be notified contest results by Friday August 13, 2010.

Irvington Art Walk - June 5th

On Saturday, June 5th, you are invited to join us in celebrating our unique eastside community. During Celebrate Irvington you will have a chance to talk with artists, visit our shops, admire the hand-painted murals on several buildings, and enjoy a tasty meal or snack at one of Irvington’s fine eateries. Attending the event is free of charge and family friendly. As part of our celebration, the Irvington Guild of Artists sponsors the Irvington Art Walk from Noon - 6 pm. IGA Sponsored Concert in Ellenberger Park Saturday 5/22

You're invited to hear one of Irvington's most entertaining and hard-working bands - on us! Jan Flexon and the Dancin' Nancys will be playing at the kick-off concert for the Ellenberger Park FREE Summer Concert Series. The show begins promptly at 6:30pm and will last till around 8 or 8:30pm. Bring your chairs, blankets and picnics for this wonderful welcome to the Spring & Summer arts season in Irvington.

While you're there please pick up your 2010 IGA member application, fill it out and turn it in! The IGA is a member supported organization and without you we can't continue the amazing programs and events we organize and support - like the Art Walk June 5th, Creative Art Camp in July and the Walk in the Park in August.

IGA Collectors Show Opening 5/21

History of Photography and Alternative Photographic Processes
Stephen Rose, owner of Stephen Rose Fine Art, will share stories behind the history of photogrpahy and how it made an inpact in our world. See examples of various photographic processes, from cyanotypes to polaroid transfers and gum bichromate to gelatin silver. Stephen was a professor of photography in Boston, has been a dealer of fine photography for many years, and a gifted photographer in his own right. Casserole: A Mixture of Photographic Thoughts contains new works by INvision artists, including works using historic processes and digital technology. Artworks will include imagery concerning ideas about architecture, the landscape, and portraiture. The artists will be at the reception on January 15 from 5:30 to 8:00pm to meet with patrons. Join the artists to enjoy the artwork, good food, including casseroles, and lively conversation.

Casserole: A Mixture of Photographic Thoughts is presented with support from the Irvington Guild of Artists and the Irvington Historical Society.

About the organizations:

INvision: Alliance of Photographic Artists has been meeting together to promote and advance the art of photography since the mid 1990’s. INvision provides a platform for photographic discourse in order to encourage the artistic growth of its members and to enrich the lives of interested people through the experience of photography. Members are from many walks of life and find that art photography is the creative outlet that feeds their soul. The holiday season is intensifying and with the end of one year and the beginning of another, we take moments amongst the flurry (and flurries) to reflect. When thinking of appreciating the past and hopes for the future, the idea of "What is special, unique?" A wonderful way to make note is through art; marking past events, personal relationships or creating new memories. Always thoughtful, hopefully thought provoking. Please support the arts communities throughout the year...to bring yourself and your friends/family much joy and amazement. Santa's Helpers in Irvington

Many people braved the chill to do some holiday shopping during Christmas in Irvington. They found that the local shops kept them warm as they perused all the beautiful items, sampled savory snacks and had a visit with Santa. Thanks for supporting your local merchants. And, a Santa's helper was seen picking up an IGA brochure...it looks like someone may be getting an IGA membership that "gives" all year 'round! Membership applications for 2010 will be available as well as information about upcoming exhibits! Please join us in supporting Irvington's merchants during this holiday season.

Walk in the Park 2010

Yes, you read that correctly.

Due to the current economic climate the Irvington Guild of Artists is unable to hold its annual Walk in the Park Art Fair at Ellenberger Park in 2009. We are deeply saddened by this decision but it was necessary to maintain the high quality of the fair.

However, we are already organizing for 2010 and we need your help! Volunteers make the IGA happen and are vital to bringing these events to the public. Please contact us at info@irvingtonart.org to let us know of your willingness to help.

2010 will feature a one day event in late August on a SATURDAY! We will fill the park with artists, food vendors, entertainment, artist demonstrations a "hands-on" art area called Dali's Digs for Kids and much, much more!

June 20th will be a very special day in Irvington this year. It is a day to CELEBRATE IRVINGTON and there will be a lot of activities going on all day to help you celebrate. Some of those include the Irvington Guild of Artists Art Walk, the unveiling of the new Irvington logo, the Irvington Presbyterian Church Fish Fry, a Farmer's Market at Edibles, a vintage sale sponsored by Friends of Irving Circle, and live music in the evening. Happy January!

Welcome to the official blog for the Irvington Guild of Artists!
Here you will find all the current information for events, membership, volunteer opportunities, exhibitions, board members, questions, answers and all things art related in Irvington!!

Over 2008 it has become very apparent that maintaining a website with current event information is a big job and our all volunteer board needs a fast and efficient way to get information out to you - the arts supporter. To that end we are creating this blog!

Please be patient as we gt information updated and out to you. All event and meeting dates and times will be posted by Friday February 6th, 2009. We look forward to another exiting year promoting the arts in Irvington and Indianapolis.

Our first important announcement for 2009!

We are thrilled to be able to call the Bona Thompson Memorial Center our new home!
All IGA board meetings will be held at the center and we will be assisting with exhibitions and providing additional support for the BTMC. We sincerely hope that as you begin to consider your philanthropic support for 2009 you consider the strength of this partnership and include both the IGA and the BTMC along with the Irvington Historical Society in your plans.
